The Hunt

Successful sea duck hunting depends on many factors; we feel that mobility and flexibility are the two most important keys to any successful hunt. Here at Rising Sun we offer three styles of hunting, traditional ledge hunts, boat blind, and layout boat hunts. By employing these various styles of hunting our guides are able to adapt quickly to any changes that may occur in the ever-changing weather and sea conditions.You will start your day out at 4:30 a.m. with fresh brewed coffee and a hearty breakfast. Our days hunting style and location will be decided by weather conditions, wind direction and tide phase. It’s then a short ride to the launch site.

After a 15 –20 minute boat ride to our predetermined location, the decoy rigs will be set and waiting for the morning flights to start. Our primary target will be Eiders along with ample opportunities at Scoters and Old Squaws as well.

As dawn breaks, groups of sea ducks start moving across the waters in route to their feeding areas for the day. As birds start decoying the shooting can and will get exciting and fast paced. After a day of hunting and full bag limits, it’s back to the lodge to a host of activities such as rest and relaxation, socializing about the days hunt, getting ready for the next day, enjoying some quite time in Maine’s splendor, or you may want to accompany our guides scouting for the next days location.
