Specializing in sea duck hunting, Rising Sun Outfitters began in 1998, offering waterfowlers quality professional guided hunts along the rugged rock bound north coast of Maine, the true birthplace of sea duck hunting.

Over the last decade two things have propelled us to our present day status as Maine’s Premier Waterfowling Outfitter, HARD WORK and DEDICATION. With a 120-day season our guides log over 100 grueling days on the water dedicating themselves to providing you with the best sea duck action in New England. During the off-season all of our pro – staffers are commercial watermen working the waters off the coast of Maine. We feel this gives us a tremendous advantage over other outfitters, for being on the water everyday allows us to constantly monitor bird movement, changes in feeding habits as well as the ever-changing flight paths within the 300 miles of coastline and 150 charted islands of our home hunting range.

PRO-STAFF

Ernie Spaulding:  Owner/operator, born and raised on the coast of Maine, a third generation Master Maine Guide and licensed USCG Captain as well as a veteran commercial fisherman, having 30 years of sea duck hunting experience and the uncanny ability to find “where they live” has made Capt. Ernie one of the most sought after sea duck guides on the Maine coast.

Jon Rolfe:  A native of the Maine coast, Registered Maine Guide, licensed USCG Captain as well as a lifelong commercial fisherman. Capt. Jon’s vast knowledge of the ocean and local bird movement, along with 25 years of sea duck hunting experience has made him an invaluable addition to the RSO team of guides.

Dennis Perry:  Also a native of the Maine coast and a Registered Maine Guide, licensed USCG Captain, as well as a respected outdoorsman, Capt. Dennis brings 23 years of waterfowling experience to the RSO team of guides, proving himself to be a valuable asset to our operation.

Tess:  Chesapeake Bay Retriever, Tess, owned by pro – staffer Capt. Ernie Spaulding. She is the senior member of our retrieving team. At 10 years of age and thousands of retrieves, she is still working on a limited bases during the early season. 

Yella:   Yellow Lab, Yella is a 5 year old lab owned by pro – staffer Capt. Jon Rolfe. With countless retrieves on puddle ducks, yella has made the transition to being a sea duck dog with great enthusiasm.
